Lighting Legends are delighted to share our recent collaboration with the DIY SOS team on a BBC Children in Need Special. This heart-warming project aimed to construct a bespoke children's counselling and therapy centre at Treetops Hospice in Derbyshire. The centre will serve as a sanctuary for traumatically bereaved children and their families. The project was a mission to create a lasting legacy in the East Midlands. The DIY SOS team, led by Nick Knowles and including designer Gabrielle Blackman, worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. They were joined by an army of volunteers, including the dedicated team from Lighting Legends.
Our Role: More Than Just Lighting
Our involvement began with a consultation with the head designer. Together, we conceptualised a lighting setup that would offer both functionality and a comforting atmosphere. Our Legendary Smart Socket caught the eye of Billy, the head electrician, and even the presenters requested it for their own gardens!
Overcoming Challenges with Our Super Festoon Lights
On the second day, despite the inclement weather, our team was back on site installing our Super Festoon String Lights and guide wires. These lights are not only visually stunning but also incredibly durable, making them perfect for both commercial and domestic use.

Community and Legacy
The project was part of a larger outreach initiative, including Radio 2 in the Park, featuring performances from artists like Tears for Fears and Kylie Minogue. Our team had the opportunity to interact with various local businesses and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing our commitment to community engagement.
